The
renaming of the boat
from "Jay-Em 2" to "Mikela".

It was during a trip to Port Vincent in January 2002 that we discovered the
original name of Peter's boat. We met 2 of the 3 previous owners, gained contact
details of the 1st owner, and learnt a bit of the history about "MIKELA" as she
was originally called. The boat had spent her earliest days at Port Vincent
until Peter bought it in 1998. For some time we had thought about changing the
name of the boat but it was always a question of what to? The answer came along
at just the right time.
Through winter he set about polishing up the hull and removing old pinstriping
and did a superb job in giving her a facelift. Then the new name & pin striping
was professionally applied and it was time to relaunch. It was 19th October 2002
when she became "Mikela" again. It was the day of the Funs'l, an event run by
the Trailer Sailer Association of South Australia and she had been off the water for
about 6 months. So now, if you see Mikela on the water and wonder if you've seen
that name some years ago, or wonder whatever happened to Jay-Em 2, well the same
boat is still out there after a life on the water of over 20 years. She has just
gone back to her original name.
