12th February 2006

On 12th February 2006 I was part of a huge Flotilla of boats which motored from Outer Harbour to Port Adelaide in aid of Camp Quality. (This organization puts a smile on the face of children living with cancer through its programs and camps). It was the first year this event was held and commenced after my friends lost a 6 year old grandchild to cancer just before Christmas. The vision that one person created after this tragic loss came to fruition when 150 boats of all shapes and sizes proceeded fully ‘dressed’ up the Port River to awaiting celebrations. Its aim was to put a smile on a child's face living with cancer. It was a colourful, noisy procession which included camp quality children on big boats, the police launch, the MFS fire boat squirting water everywhere, big cruisers, sailing yachts & motor boats, big and small. One member of my sailing club, Langdon really looked the part riding a jet ski in a clown suit with his Flotilla flag flying proudly behind. He certainly got smiles from many. On many sailing boats, crews dressed to a chosen theme. We had indians, people dressed as pirates, others dressed all in yellow, (the colour of camp quality), men in fairy outfits, and lots more. Flotilla flags at $75 flew proudly from high up the many vessels and each person on board paid a nominated fee for Camp Quality.  In all we raised $32,000 in just one day because a person with vision for the good of others had the foresight but more importantly people backing the concept. The event is to be held again on 11th February 2007. I encourage you to become involved. If you have a boat or access to one, consider being a part of the Flotilla. Without a boat you can still take part by visiting us anywhere along the route, cheering on the special children as we proceed to Port Adelaide. Bring a smile to a child's face. Dress up. Donate. Fly a flag for Flotilla for Kids. Join in the celebrations at Port Adelaide. Your investment is in the smile on a child's face in Camp Quality therapy programs.

11th February 2007
The second year for   Flotilla for Kids   has once again been a memorable day and succeeded in surpassing previous numbers in the number of boats participating and general attendance, both on and off the water. The final calculation of the amount of money raised is still yet to be calculated but you can still donate by going to the official website via the link below. This year there were more boats, more colour, more people dressed up, more fun costumed animals for kids and we all hope more funds raised. All monies will directly benefit  Camp Quality programs. These programs put a smile on a childs face......Remember...Laughter is the best medicine.
