These pages have much more information about Puffing Billy.
Monthly News
The Puffing Billy Railway's Monthly News is a newsletter sent to all rostered volunteers.
Heritage
Puffing Billy is proud of its heritage. Here is part of the Heritage Manual which attempts to define what Puffing Billy is.

I designed this page to use the font "Century Old Style" to reflect the style of a 1900s Victorian Railways' notice. I admit that colour is not consistent with that style.

Puffing Billy

Our 100th birthday re-enactment of the first train. 18/12/1900

The Puffing Billy Railway is a narrow gauge (2'6") steam operated railway in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne. It was restored by volunteers. Since July 1962 the Puffing Billy Preservation Society has kept this popular tourist train operating.

Puffing Billy was opened in 1900 as a branch line service the local farming and timber community. The Victorian Railways closed it in April 1954. Their last revenue train ran in August 1953. (That is not the whole story.)

Puffing Billy is an operating museum with a rare claim: It has a complete collection of rolling stock and locomotives. It has at least one example of each type.
