ARCHDEACONRY COURT OF CANTERBURY WILL REGISTER

In the name of God Amen the first day of Aprill Anno D'm 1631. I Abraham Shillinge of Throwleigh in the county of Kent yeoman, sicke in body but of perfect rememberance ( praysed bee Gods therefore ) doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and form followinge that is to say first I bequeath my soule unto Allmighty my maker hopinge assuredly to bee saved by the death and the passion of Jesus Christ my saviour and redeemer and my body to bee buryed in the churchyard of the parish of Throwleigh aforesaid. Item I give unto Abraham Shillinge my sonne, all those five peices or parcells of lands at Ospringe by estimation twelve acres more or less lying and beeinge in the parish of Throwleigh aforesaid whereof and hath lately beene converted ( from those parcells which were anciently called Chillmoll Crofte, part of the meadow at Little Townfields ) into one piece now called Little Townfield and the other four parcells and called and knowne by the of whittinford to have and to hold unto the said Abraham my sonne the five parcells of land aforesaid with all and ******* those pertaining and to his heirs forever Provided allways that the said Abraham my sonne and his heirs and assignees shall pay unto my executors hereafter named towards the payment of my debts twenty shillings by the yeare of lawfull money of England during twenty yeares next after my decease at two ***** feasts or termes of the yeare ( that is to say ) at our Lady Day and Michaelmas by equal portions the first payment thereof to begin at the first feast of the feasts aforesaid that shall happen to come next after my decease and my will is that if the said twenty shillings bee not paid yearly as aforesaid during the said twenty years unto my executors or one of them and their assignees then it shall and may bee lawfull for them and **** of them their executors and assignees to enter and ******** in and *** the said five parcells of lands and **** *** therof as in case of **** unto they shall be paid. Item I give unto Arnold Shillinge my sonne all those my five peices or parcells of land lying and beeing in the parish of Throwleigh aforesaid at or neare to a place those called **** hoole containinge by estimation fifteen acres more or less whereof one is called and knowne by the name of **** Croft, another called ********, another ******** another the **** of ****** hoole and lands lately purchased of John Upton and the other landlords to have and to hold unto the said Arnold my sonne all those five peices or parcells of land with all and ****** those pertaining and to his heirs forever Provided always that the said Arnold my sonne and his heirs and assignees shall pay unto my executors hereafter named towards the payinge of my debts fourty shillings by the yeare of lawful money of England and during twenty years next after my decease at two ***** feasts or termes of the yeare that is to say at our Lady Day and Michaelmas by equal portions the first payment therof to begin aat the first of the feasts aforesaid that shall happen to come next after my decease And my will is that if the said forty shillings bee not paid yearly as aforesaid unto my executors or one of them and their assignees during the said twenty years then it shall and may bee lawful ffor them and either of them their executors and assignees to enter and ******* in and upon the said last bequeathed parcells of lands and every parte thereof as in case of rent / chardge until they shall be fully satisfied and paid. Item I give unto my two sonnes Thomas 20:d and Joseph xii:d Item I give unto my daughter the wife of Thomas Baker xx:d to bee paid within one whole year next after my decease. Item I give unto my daughter Cheeseman x:d Item I give unto Micgaell my sonne xii:d The residue of all my goods and chattells I give unto Elizabeth my wife and Mary my daughter paying my debts and ******* and discharging my funeral expenses whom I make joint executors of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the day and year aforesaid in the presence of those named hereunderwritten, The mark of Abraham Shillinge.
