Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook line
Location: Melways 188 B4
Puffing Billy trains do not normally stop at Wright.
This station consisted of a name board with a passenger shelter. It was opened on 24/10/1904.
This station is on a 1 in 30 rising grade for trains heading towards UFTG. A driver (Ian Barkla) told me that travelling at night the kerosene lights provided poor illumination. As Wright station was on a straight it was difficult to know exactly where the platform was. The technique was to apply the brakes when you heard the engine's exhaust echoing off the passenger shelter. He said it always worked, unless one was distracted.
This station shelter has been rebuilt.
