Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook line

Location:    Melways 124 D12

The location is at the horseshoe bend.

yard diagram This location had tanks where the locomotives took water.
In the early 1920s there was a loading platform alongside the main line. The track from this crossed the line and ran up the valley towards neighbouring farms.

The landslide that led to the line's closure (and subsequent restoration) occurred 2 chains (40 m) beyond the water tanks.

In the mid 1920s a developer planned a development with station named Otira. The V.R. plans showed that it would have been located past the water-tanks towards Belgrave. There were two proposals, one for a goods siding, the other for a passenger shed. As the area was not suitable for housing (the valley was too steep) nothing eventuated.
