Upper Ferntree Gully to Gembrook line
Location: Melways 74 F5
This station was commonly referred to as "UFTG or "Upper Gully". The station closer to Melbourne (on the broad gauge) was originally Lower Ferntree Gully, changed to Ferntree Gully, and known as "The Gully" or "Lower Gully" UFTG was the closest narrow gauge station to Melbourne. The area has many tree ferns, hence the name. The Victorian Railways changed the spelling of Ferntree to Fern Tree for both stations on 29/2/1972. As this was after the narrow gauge station closed the old spelling is retained.
