The restoration of the railway to lakeside and the need for a terminus led to this layout. It was some time before the station building was constructed.
The need for a storage siding led to the single ended siding being built on the low side of the run-around loop. This siding was temporarily removed to be built up to the level of the other sidings with soil excavated from the site of the toilets built in 1995.
This yard layout was built following the extension to Gembrook in 1998. Better crossing facilities and more convenience for our passengers motivated the change. The new track near the toilets is about 1 m. closer to the toilets than the old. The other track is where the old siding was. With these changes the water tanks were de-commissioned and watering points connected to the mains were installed.
The "Wig-Wag" signal is an old style warning light on the end of an arm. When operating it swings to and fro. As Wig-Wag signals are no longer legal in Victoria for vehicle crossings we are installing it as a general (but not narrow gauge) historical exhibit.
