Clematis yard has seen minor changes over the years. The siding was opened on 11/1/1910. The PPBS replaced the passenger waiting shed with a small station building and a goods shed, and replaced these when they were burnt down. Most passenger trains do not stop at Clematis.
The only change the PBPS made to the yard was the addition of a small siding off the loop siding to store a van converted to sleeping accommodation for the youth group.
The loop is locked by staff locks. The train staff (physical token of the train's permission to be in the section) is used to unlock the points. The staff cannot be removed until the points are locked for main line running. Thus only one end of the loop can be accessed at any time.
Clematis is used to store firewood for lighting the steam locos. Hence it is still used as a goods siding with firewood being railed in, stored and then railed out.
