Consider This

Consider where mobile phones, and personal digital assistants (PDAs) are leading us.

Eventually we will have tiny wearable devices that effectively give us the abilities to see and talk with anyone anywhere, to have the knowledge of the world at our finger tips, as well as having a digital assistant that can take over the mental drudgery and allow us to expand our capabilities in much greater endeavors.

With our "brain aids" we will be further along the path to omniscience and omnipotence. Children will grow up with these devices as virtually extensions of themselves. People will wonder how it was possible to live without our digital assistants.

Effectively we will have added an extra layer to our being.

The CWG material says that we are three part beings. Soul, mind, and body. We will become four part beings by adding this extra layer.

Just as the digital layer allows us to expand our experience into another reality (cyberspace) so too the previous layers have allowed our soul to expand its experience into new realities. When the soul takes on a body it allows it to expand its experience into the physical world. When the soul takes on a mind, it allows it to expand its experience into the inner world that we experience inside our heads.

Just as the digital brain aid will give us greater abilities to create grander and more wonderful experience, so too the previous layers have allowed our soul to create grander and more wonderful experience. The body allows us to experience the delights of sensual experience. The mind allows us to explore intellectual pursuits of great complexity.

We can see how there is an evolutionary process here. The soul first takes on bodies without minds (simple animals). All the wonder of the physical world comes into the souls experience. Then gradually a new layer is added as the animals begin to develop larger brains. Eventually we have a new layer, "the human mind". Now we are beginning to work on the next layer.

We are like onions. The soul is at the heart.

When we die and reincarnate it is like when our computer dies and we loose everything stored on it. It initially seems like a great loss. All of the junk left by deleted programs. All of the files that you have forgotten what they are for. All of the stuff that is effectively lost anyway because it is buried in amongst enormous amounts of information. All of the bugs that we have learned to live with. All lost.

But the new computer gives us the chance to start with a clean slate. We can choose to start again with a more orderly filing system. We have so much new space to expand into. A new computer can be like a new lease on life.

These analogies can give us some insight into our own nature. What do we loose when we die? What part of our self remains?
