Are We Being Helped? If a star is a grain of sand, there are as many stars in our galaxy as there are grains of sand on an expansive beach. If a galaxy is a grain of sand there are as many galaxies in the universe as there are grains of sand on an expansive beach. Just look at the Milky Way up in the night sky. That is our galaxy. What looks like a whitish fog or cloud in the heavens is made up of stars, in the same way that a cloud is made up of enormous numbers of tiny water droplets. There are high-powered astronomical photos available that look just like a normal view of the night sky. However when you look at them with a magnifying glass, what initially look like stars are actually galaxies. Astronomers are discovering planets orbiting neighboring stars all the time. If just one in a million stars has a planet capable of supporting life. If on just one in a million of those planets life actually evolves, and if just one in a million of those evolves intelligent life. Then there would still be more than millions of intelligent species in our tiny little grain of sand galaxy alone. Consider how far our science and technology has come in the last hundred years. Try to imagine how far we will be in a thousand years, a million years. It is unimaginable. A thousand or a million years is miniscule in the timescale of the galaxy or the universe. So there must be enormous numbers of intelligent extra-terrestrial species out there that are thousands, millions or even billions of years more advanced than us. How small minded we are to think that such beings would need to travel and use their technology in much the same way as we do. Just as our technology seemed like magic to native peoples we encountered in our recent past (with only a few hundred years of technology behind us), so any beings that are greatly more advanced than us will seem purely magical or God like. If they are thousands or millions of years more advanced than us they may be capable of being in your room with you now, unnoticed. They could be listening to your thoughts and inserting subtle thoughts into your head. Would you think that we won't be capable of such things in a thousand or a million years? What we see as UFOs may just be those cultures that are only a few hundred years in advance of our own. None of this of course should be taken to mean that such beings are here interfering with or controlling our development, merely that it is logical that it is within the realms of possibility. They may have a policy of non-interference for example. It is also likely that they may want to be of assistance to us. We could be a charity case. Considering that our culture has destroyed any less powerful cultures that it has encountered (native peoples), they are likely to be very careful not to get too overtly involved, In case they destroy our culture. Just subtle and unobtrusive guidance may be the best approach. That way a culture can be allowed to develop in it's own unique way. Extraterrestrial charity workers are likely just be gently steering us away from the worst possible futures but largely letting us choose our future for ourselves. Beings that are millions or billions of years more advanced than us would be omniscient and omnipotent from our perspective. They would be capable of manifesting their desires and creating anything. In fact beings billions of years in advance of us could have guided the development of our sun (Let there be light) and solar system so as to create conditions most suitable for intelligent life. The interesting spurts in evolution shown in the fossil record, leave room for some form of guided evolution. Even if only in the gross form of sending in an asteroid at the appropriate time, so as to free up niches for the remaining species to evolve into. All our concepts of God could just be our way of relating to benevolent highly evolved cultures that have and are subtly helping us to evolve. If you just believe all of this you are perhaps too willing to believe anything. However if you say it is not possible you are living in a bottle without ever considering that there might be a whole world outside. The only purely logical response is to say it is one possible explanation, and to keep an open mind on the subject. |
