MEDITATION & SELF-EXPLORATION for modern times and lifestyles |
| You can discover for yourself that all of life is ultimately subjective. Even the most concrete and objective of our experiences must be viewed through the window of our subjective experience. Which window we chose to view life through can make all the difference between seeing life as a struggle, and seeing life as a wonderful experience that is to be dived into without fear. Meditation and related practices can help us to explore our own inner nature. It is possible to discover for ourselves how to choose a better perspective from which to view our life. Everyone is different. What one person finds wonderfully useful another might find useless. Keeping this in mind a range of techniques will be presented, beginining with the least time consuming and easiest to fit into one's life. I suggest giving each technique a go for long enough for the novelty to wear off and for it to begin to become habitual. This is when the real benefits can begin to materialize in your life. Only then are you in a position to decide if any particular technique is suited to your own nature. You can't hope to see if a particular technique will be of benefit to you in your life until you have fully explored it. ie don't judge a book by it's cover. Much of the stuff here may seem too simple, or too easy to be of use. Many of us have been culturally conditioned into the "no pain, no gain" philosophy. Many subconsciously feel that bigger, more complicated and more sophisticated must be better. What if this is wrong? Find out for yourself. Consider what follows as experiments. Don't take anything for granted. Keep an open mind. You don't need to believe or disbelieve anything. Just try it, give each technique a good go regularly and often over weeks or months. Then if it feels good, continue, if not move onto another experiment. Don't rush things, you have your whole live to explore your own inner experience. Be comfortable and relaxed in your approach. The most difficult thing for most modern people is finding the time to meditate etc. Consequently it is very important to enjoy the process and experience of meditation. If they aren't enjoying the process then eventually most people give it up. This doesn't mean that you should be trying hard to experience bliss in your meditation etc. Instead have an attitude that you may have when being gently massaged. i.e. just let go and enjoy the experience for what it is, rather than for what you would like it to be. |

| The mini-meditation techniques in 3,4 & 5 above could be called "Meditation for Busy People". Take the time to experience these simple, easy and quick meditations in your daily life on an often, regular and ongoing basis and you may fulfill everything you want out of meditation. Even if you intend to go much further and deeper into meditation in future, it is still worthwhile spending a lot of time truly and deeply exploring these techniques. These techniques, although short and simple embody the heart of meditation, in that they are about letting go of the normal thinking process and taking some time to BE with oneself. They are techniques that you need never stop doing. i.e. you can practice them as well as any other meditation techniques you learn. Bear in mind that if you only do meditation techniques rarely and irregularly then you can't expect to get anything significant out of them. On the other hand, like anything else, it is also possible to have too much of a good thing, such that it can lose it's effectiveness or even be counter productive. Discover for yourself what is your particular suitable and comfortable dosage at any given point in your life (it will change). Discover for yourself how best to make a habit of these techniques. |
