Parts Required
5 x globes holders. 100 series Landcruiser or Ford BA Falcon fit best with wedge type globes
but GQ Patrol bayonet type OK with some modification.
The Ford BA Falcon cost around $65.00 for five holders and globes (stop/tail
x 2,
reverse x1 and indicator x2 -orange lamp with offset pins).
I used second hand GQ holders and globes from Halls 4x4 Salvage in Melbourne
- cost was $10.00.
2 x 21w/5w 12V dual element clear globes - tail /stop lights.
1 x 21w 12V single element clear globe – reverse.
2 x 21w 12V single element orange globes – indicators.
Approx. 9 meters of single core automotive cable.
Various pins, plugs, connectors, etc.
Procedure
Remove access panels within the cargo bay.
Remove two bolts from the rear of each lens through access panels.
Rotate inner edge of tail light lens slightly.
Pull lens until retaining lugs ‘pop’ out – refer to diagram below.

Existing plugs and wiring should be as indicated below.

In rear of lens, tap holes to accept globe holders. The assembly
from the Ford just requires a 27 mm hole saw and a small square file
for the
locking tabs, through each reflector centre and then the lamp holders will
fit in with a neat dust proof seal, due to the O-ring around the holder.
Install three additional wires from passenger side plug to drivers side
plug. I ran the wires through the head lining just behind the door seal.
Join wires at each location. GQ Patrol holders will come with plugs
fitted. The GU vehicle plugs are NOT compatible. However, remove the pins
from the plug and insert into the GU Tail Light Plugs.
Insert globes and holders and test. Note that some orange globes have
offset retaining lugs and the holders diagonal opposite slots. If so simply
remove one lug from the globe with a file.
Re-install lights into vehicle. Reverse of steps 1 to 4.
I have also tried LED indicator lights from Jaycar. These proved to
be far too dull during the day because the LED's are directional and do not
reflect off the reflector. I have reverted back to the conventional orange
indicator globes.
