ANRITSU. 1993. Early in 1993? Telecom Australia set up one or two telephones for a surfing classic carnival in Vietnam. The cards used for this occasion had the same design as the Christmas Island $10 trial, Rwanda $50 D2, and Cambodian $2 OTC issues. These cards were printed and encoded in Australia as with all cards issued from around JUNE 1992. The prefix is 289, and the Vietnam cards lie between 0028910001 and 0028910200. YES ONLY 200 CARDS MADE, and records of sales indicate only cards #1 up to #73 were sold.

I have possessed only 3 cards at any time. Mine is 0028910028, card number #28. The reverse of the card is overprinted "VIETNAM" and "$50". The card was encoded in $US and could only be used on THAT phone at the surfing tournament, for the 2 weeks!!

GPT - HO CHI MINH city

Uniphone Malaysia produced the GPT cards for use in Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam. A small number of the first designs were encoded, but without serial number. These were the first trials. Subsequently, the controls 1 VTN A and B were used for the first public issue.

HANOI - SCLUMBERGER TRIAL

Schlumberger produced 2 cards for a trial in Hanoi. Nothing further is known.

VIETNAM GEMPLUS - FIRST ISSUE

These are the first issue chip cards from Gemplus for use in Vietnam. Pictured below.

VIETNAM LANDIS & GYR TRIALS

In 1995 L&G produced 2 cards that appear to be for Vietnam. It is not known if any were ever used there. They are possibly only General Demo cards. One shows the company logo, and the other reads, " Heilong Bay - Vietnam". It is thought about 500 of each card were produced. The logo card has the control 509M and the Bay card is 509L? I am missing the bay card
