Chainwire Although chainwire is available in both standard galvanised and heavy galvanised mesh, we only ever use the heavy galvanised chainwire. Both look the same when new, however over a period of a few years the standard gal mesh often shows signs of rust and needs replacement much sooner than the heavy gal mesh. In the areas we service (which are close to the coast) this is particularly the case. Domestic: Standard domestic construction consists of 25NB galvanised pipe toprail with 32NB galvanised pipe posts and heavy wire as the bottom cable. The bottom of the chainwire is clipped to the bottom wire with the top of the chainwire laced to the toprail. Instead of the galvanised chainwire it is possible to have either black or green PVC chainwire with the posts, toprails and fittings powdercoated the same colour. Some property owners are reverting to an earlier style, utilising chainwire on CCA hardwood posts, with timber top and bottom rails. Many variations have been tried including installation of an additional horizontal rail above the chainwire.

Rural: Chainwire is sometimes used as a cladding for rural fences when the standard rural ringlock is not strong enough or the holes in the mesh need to keep in (or out) small animals. Industrial: Standard industrial chainwire construction consists of 1800mm heavy galvanised, barb top chainwire with three strands of barbed wire above. Posts are usually 40NB galvanised pipe with larger sizes for corner and gate posts. Similar to domestic chainwire, it is possible to have green or black PVC chainwire with the posts powdercoated the same colour.
