Hazard perception test

When you apply for your probationary driver licence, the first part of your test is the Hazard Perception Test. You need to pass this test before you can go onto the driving test. You must be at least 17 years 11 months of age to do the Hazard perception test, however, a licence may not be issued before you are 18 years old.

The Hazard Perception Test checks that you can recognise and react to various traffic hazards such as other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists using short video images of traffic situations.

About the hazard perception test
This is done at a VicRoads office on computer


It has 28 traffic scenes and you must get a score of at least 54% to pass
you have 45 minutes to complete the hazard perception test
you can do this test in 20 different languages.


Y ou can hear the instructions in the different languages through the headset

The test results are valid for 12 months.

If you don't pay for the issue of your licence within 12 months of passing the test, you will have to resit the hazard perception test.
