Cementco Bowls Club was formed as a recreational club for employees of Queensland Cement and Lime ( QCL ) and residents of the surrounding area with the original bowling green and clubhouse supplied by the company.
On 8th December 1948 a notice of intent was posted inviting all interested parties to attend an Inaugural Meeting on 13th December. Twenty eight employees attended this meeting.
The Green and Clubhouse were opened on Saturday 21st May 1949 with 250 members and guests present. (Photo at left)

The first A.G.M. was held on 13th August with 89 members on the roll. The club then grew to peak at 256 members but, as with most bowls clubs, declined,  and now has a steady membership of around 140 plus the Ladies club (formed in April 1957) of around 25.
In the year 2000 the QCL production plant relocated thus leaving the club with an uncertain future, however with much hard negotiating and goodwill from both parties a lease - purchase agreement was entered into on 26th August 2001 effective as of 1st July 2001.
At the A.G.M. in 2003 the trading name was changed to our new name      "Darra Cementco Bowls Club"   which is now the name registered for all Bowls events.
In January 2005 the Men's Club and Ladies' Club amalgamated, although there are still individual Men's and Ladies events every member now has full rights within our Club.

Thus the existence of Darra Cementco Bowls Club is assured and with due care and diligence our future independence and success is now an achievable goal.
