The Voices:

The Voices collective was formed in 2005 to share singing skills and the joy of singing. Mixing voice production technique with a range of folk songs from around the world, we create a safe space for singers of any level of confidence to develop and challenge themselves as they learn new ways to sing new songs. With four highly talented and experienced workshop leaders to draw upon, the Voices are able to run workshops covering a wide range of content and territory.

Singing Workshop and Masterclass Tutors

Nicole Murray is a singer-songwriter and visual artist, home briefly from national and international touring with John Thompson as cloudstreet, one of Australia's leading acoustic music acts. Nicole has formerly sung with Baldrick and the Cunning Plans, The Pirate Brides, and The Gritty Pearls. A passionate, thoughtful and empathic teacher (B.Ed), Nicole has a joyful enthusiasm for encouraging others to develop their vocal, musical and performance skills.

John Thompson, the other half of cloudstreet, is also a singer, musician and songwriter. John is a regular star at the National and Woodford Folk Festivals, particularly as co-host with Martin Pearson of the hugely popular daily Variety Breakfast at Woodford. A barrister in a past life, John has an exquisite understanding of the tension between artist and “day job”, and how to nurture the one to benefit both.

Helena Bond is a singer and vocal practitioner with six years' experience teaching people to discover the voice they have and develop the voice they want. Helena’s genuine commitment to helping others grow through creating mutual learning experiences is demonstrated in her work as a life coach and editor, as well as her vocal workshops. Helena has a special empathy for people who want to sing more beautifully for their own satisfaction, or with others, while not necessarily wanting to perform.

Andrea Baldwin is a Psychologist in private practice. She holds a PhD in Psychology, Master of Arts Drama, and Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training. She is a registered Psychologist with expertise in self-esteem building, confidence enhancement, and overcoming performance nerves. Andrea is also a singer-songwriter with a reputation in the Queensland acoustic music scene for witty, thought-provoking lyrics and toe-tapping melodies. Andrea has released a solo recording, (“Light ‘n’ The Tunnel”) as well as the debut CD of her trad-oriented duo, The Selkies.

Individual workshops are presented by varying combinations of our tutors depending on content and availability.
