Procedures & Recommended Breeding Practices

A. Stud Dogs

1.         Must pass a Temperament Test (Character Assessment) before being eligible for breeding;

2.         Must be registered with the Club before mating;

3.         Must be hip and elbow x-rayed over 12 months of age, and scored with acceptable results.

(a)     Acceptable results being less than 10:10 on each hip and elbow score not over a total of 1:1.

(b)     If dog has any numbers on the elbows, it must be bred to a mate with clear elbows (0:0).

(c)      Must not be bred to a mate that results in a combined score of the dog and bitch, over a total of 30 on their hips.

(d)     X-rays must be graded by Dr Lavelle or Dr Wyburn.

4.         PennHip is acceptable in addition to x-rays graded by Dr Lavelle or Dr Wyburn.

5.         The owner of a stud may only mate him to a bitch that has fulfilled (B).

6.         If imported frozen semen or semen of an already deceased dog, (1a) is not necessary.

 

B. Bitches

1.          Must pass a Temperament Test (Character Assessment) before being eligible for breeding;

4.          PennHip is acceptable in addition to x-rays graded by Dr Lavelle or Dr Wyburn.

5.         Should not be under the age 18 months of age, at the time of mating.

6.         Should not be bred more than twice in each succeeding period of eighteen (18) months. However, applications for Registration of litters whelped outside this period will be considered dependent on circumstances.

7.         The owner of the bitch may only mate her to a Stud Dog who has fulfilled (A).

 

C. Puppies

1.         Should be a minimum of 8 weeks old before leaving the breeder.

2.         The breeder will ensure that all puppies are wormed at regular intervals and vaccinated no later than 6 weeks old by a qualified veterinarian.

3.         All puppies should be kept in a clean and healthy condition and free from vermin.

4.         The breeder must issue information on general care, responsible dog ownership, diet, worming and vaccinations to the puppy buyer.

5.         Puppies must be micro-chipped at the time of vaccination (6 weeks old).

6.         Rear dewclaws are to be removed by a qualified veterinarian before the puppy is three (3) days old.

7.         Breeder must supply each puppy buyer with the pedigree/registration of the pup when the buyer acquires the puppy. It is the breeders responsibility to ensure that the registration is made or transferred into the new owners name.

8.         Breeders shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from them clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal and that they have the time and facilities (ie adequate fencing, sufficient room and proper shelter etc) to perform their obligations.

 

D. Registration Procedures

1.         Members must notify the Club of any change of address or phone number of either the Member and/or the dog/s and complete a Transfer Form.

2.         Breeders are to submit a completed Litter Registration Form with details of of all puppy buyers and registration fees for every living puppy whelped before the age of 12 weeks. If puppies not placed before 12 weeks, breeder is to register the pups in their own name and complete a Transfer Form as soon as the breeder has allocated a home for the puppy.

3.         If litter registration not received by the time the pups are sold and reach 12 weeks old, it will be up to the discretion of the club whether to accept litter registration, keeping in mind late litter registration will attract a fee of $25 per puppy.

4.         All puppies must be placed on a Limited Register until they have passed breeding requirements outlined in A or B. When they have passed these requirements, they are eligible for Main Registration.

5.         Only dogs of known purebred pedigrees will be allowed for breeding/registration. Dogs with questionable lineage will not be able to parttake in the breeding program.

 

E. General

1.         Owners/breeders are to submit a Health Submission Form should the dog/s develop any genetic disease, deformity or illness. Breeders shall strive to reduce the incidence of hereditary diseases within the breed.

2.         Membership must be renweed by the due date, failure to do so will incur a $20 re-joining fee.

3.         Breeders who fail to renew on time (30 June each year), will have their listing removed from the breeders listing on the website, until such a time their membership is up to date.

4.         Members and Breeders must not act in any way that reflects badly upon the Club or is determental to the Club.

 

F. Character Assessment

1.         After the assessment, should the animal be above average in breed worth, and should it have fulfilled breeding requirements outlined in A and B, the animal is classified as suitable for breeding and therefore can be transferred to the Main Register.

2.         If a member who has a neutered dog wishes to have their dogs temperament assessed, they may do so, though in any case, they will not be eligible for main registration.

 

G. Showing

1.         Non-(financial) members are not permitted to enter their dogs in club conformation shows.

2.         Dogs not registered with the club are not permitted to be shown at club shows.

3.         Points Awarded at Shows: To achieve the title of WGSDCV Champion, the animal must achieve 100 points. To achieve the title of WGSDCV Grand Champion, the animal must achieve 1000 points.

4.         Baby and Minor Puppy classes are not eligible for points.

5.         Neutered animals are awarded points, but must only shown in Neutered Classes.

6.         Dogs who have competed at other organisations Shows up to December 2005, are eligible to have points awarded carried over to this Club.

7.         After a show, certificates shall be awarded to exhibitors stating the total points awarded by dogs who have won additional points.
