THE MERRY EMAIL

XMAS TREE

Christmas is drawing closer and Santa and his elfin workforce are getting in to high gear with toy production at full tilt and target figures being met. While keeping an eye on Quality Control and Safety Standards at the same time, of course. Not an easy task, even for Santa but a labour of love for him, as Merry has assured me.

Now I have been communicating for some time with my chat and email friends "Merry" and her husband "Reindeer Man". So you can imagine my astonishment when I recently learnt who these two very special people really are! Naturally, with "Reindeer Man" being so very busy, it has been mostly Merry who has kept in touch and, being the kind and sweet person that she is, she has agreed to let me post some of her email updates on happenings at the snowface. She would also like to answer any small questions that you might like to send her way.

I shall be eternally grateful for her generous contribution to this humble Aussie Christmas Web Page. If you have any little question you would like to ask, please email me and I will pass them along to Merry for an answer.

Christmas House Hello Virgo,
Here I am with another little update on our hectic life here at the South Pole. You asked in your last email if Santa's workshop is at the North or South pole. It is true that many years ago the main workshop was at the North Pole, hence the use of the dear reindeer etc. But as the numbers of children in the world have grown so wonderfully over past times, we found it necessary to expand the Santa Operations and start up a new South Pole facility as well. This is now well established and as the plumbing is very, very old at the Northern workshop, I persuaded Reindeer Man to move permanently down here. We also have the advantage here of the nearby Antarctic Bases, should we be in need of assistance or some good company. They are such a cheerful breed of folk out at the bases, it's a treat to go visiting occasionally. Of course, there is also now the Lunar Operations but I will save that subject for another day.

Reindeer As I told you last time, the pace is really picking up here for all of us but especially for poor Reindeer Man. Although we are well on target, it is such a busy time for him and things have not been helped by a sudden "Down Tools" at the North Pole Workshop last week and a problem with the gas supply here in the South last month. The gas, thankfully, has now returned to normal and we can all forget the horror of cold showers in the morning! There was a lot of grumbling coming from the Reindeer quarters, I can tell you.
The troubles in the North were more of a concern. Normally the elves are hardworking and uncomplaining, if a little excitable, but there are one or two who have been watching a little too much cable TV and are getting some odd ideas. Such as "Superannuation Packages"....not a little impractical for little folk who live forever! There is one elf in particular who likes to "stir things up", I believe is the terminology. "Whistle" is only 500 years old so I guess we have to be patient with the young folk!
All has been resolved now, thank goodness. With Reindeer Man promising a packet of TimTams a day for every elf as long as we keep on schedule. Hopefully it will now be clear plowing until Christmas Eve. Elf digits crossed.

Well I guess that will have to do for now. I hope, time permitting, to write to you again before Christmas.

Goodbye for now
from your friend

Merry
