Why is sample rate sometimes RED? And sometimes when I go into a SS session the sample rate shows up in red and sometimes it's black. Does it mean anything?? eg

.........Your VARISPEED is On

·         |View|Status Bar in the main menus must be ticked to see the display indication.

·         Varispeed OFF = Black SRate display indication

·         Varispeed ON = RED SRate display indication.

·         The Varispeed setting provides up to +/-10% variation in the sample rate.

·         Varispeed can be set/changed either using the - and + keys (from the main key area, not the numeric keypad), which change the varispeed value by 0.1% each press, or in increments of 0.01% by selecting Varispeed from the Settings Menu and entering the amount required (0.00=off).

·         The Varispeed parameter is saved in the arrange file.

  • Varispeed can be active in RECORD mode.  Therefore, if you save an arrangement with a Varispeed value, your new recordings MAY be made at the wrong speed! If the Varispeed value is not 0.00%, the Sample Rate displayed in the Status bar will be shown in RED! DAT machines may not lock/record correctly via AES/EBU when varispeed is used. (-the manual)

Interfacing to other digital devices:

Note that the varispeed range of Soundscape DAW's is quite wide at +/- 10%. If extreme varispeed settings are used other devices may not have the capacity to track the corresponding wordclock change - consequently they will refuse to operate.

For example:

@44.1kHz SS8IO-1 can accept DAW varispeed wordclock between -8.6% and +10%

@48kHz my SS8IO-1 can accept DAW varispeed wordclock between -10% and +4.1%
