Multiple Soundscape SSHDR1 or REd / SS32 systems can be run on
the same computer as separate Editor instances in different
Windows - for example, 4 units that normally run together can be
run as 4 separate instances at the same time, or as any
combination e.g. U123 as one instance, and U4 as another, which
is the setup used in an example below .
All this runs on the usual ISA cards and Unit DIP switches - no
need to change anything here!
However note:
To run (up to) Four Separate Instances:-
You can make new ini & shortcuts for each Unit and run them as 4 concurrent but separate instances if you like; eg
In Explorer, go to C:\Soundscape folder, grab your
usual ini you use to open 4 units as a starting point, to get all
your usual preferences, settings & passwords (factory default
is SSEditor4.INI).
Make 4 copies in the same directory.
ReName each copy say SSEditorUnit1.ini,
SSEditorUnit2.ini, SSEditorUnit3.ini,
& SSEditorUnit4.ini
Open each of these & edit the line that says -
SDevicePath=\\.\SSDEV0 \\.\SSDEV1 \\.\SSDEV2 \\.\SSDEV3
......... to read
(key: U1=SSDEV0, U2=SSDEV1, U3=SSDEV2, U4=SSDEV3, also note that the SSDEV0 has a zero at it's end, and that when editing the lines above there is a space between "SSDEVx" and "\\.\")
Now make 4 shortcuts on your Desktop or Start
Menu Folder that refer to the above ini's:
in the shortcut properties the Target command lines would read
something like
for HDR1
or for REd / SS32
Make sure the "Start In" in the shortcut Properties reads C:\Soundscape
** Remember if you upgrade your software to a newer version (eg V3.X) you will need to change the command lines above to find the newer software (ie change "\SSHDR1 V3X\" to "\SSHDR1 V3X\" etc).
this is very useful for disk-disk copying, or de-fragging 4 disks at once... As the start of each instance is governed by the contents of the ini file, completely different setups can be made for each instance. For a guide to what is saved in ini file go here.
for Four Units, operated as 3 together and 1 separate (eg to record 5.1 mixes in 24bit whilst playing 36 x 16bit tracks):
In Explorer, go to C:\Soundscape folder, grab your
usual ini you use to open 4 units as a starting point, to get all
your usual preferences, settings & passwords (factory default
is SSEditor4.INI).
Make 2 copies in the same directory.
ReName one copy say SSEditorUnit123.ini
and the other SSEditorUnit4.ini.
(key:
Unit1=SSDEV0, Unit2=SSDEV1, Unit3=SSDEV2, Unit4=SSDEV3, also note
that the SSDEV0 has a zero at it's end, and that when editing the
lines above there is a space between "SSDEVx"
and "\\.\")
Now make 2 shortcuts on your Desktop or Start
Menu Folder that refer to the above ini's:

something like

Mixpanders are steered in a similar way.
eg in a 4-unit setup, one editor instance, with one Mixpander
pluged into U1,
the ini file says MixpanderDevicePath=\\.\SSMXP0
if you want Mixpander working on U2, first plug it into U2,
edit ini file to read MixpanderDevicePath=NOMIXPANDER \\.\SSMXP0
but if you want Mixpander working on U3, first plug it into
U3,
edit ini file to read MixpanderDevicePath=NOMIXPANDER NOMIXPANDER
\\.\SSMXP0
but if you want Mixpander working on U4, first plug it into
U4,
edit ini file to read MixpanderDevicePath=NOMIXPANDER NOMIXPANDER
NOMIXPANDER \\.\SSMXP0
... so it follows that if you have 2 Mixpanders and 4units,
and want the mixpanders on units 2 & 4,
edit ini file to read MixpanderDevicePath=NOMIXPANDER \\.\SSMXP0
NOMIXPANDER \\.\SSMXP1
