CABLE SELECT FOR HARD DRIVES.
HDR1 is normally shipped to use standard Master/Slave jumper settings when installing drives.
This is a mod you can easily make (with care) to Soundscape HDR1's which makes the drive slots Master/Slave so that you can set jumpers for all your drives to CS (CSEL) - then any drive can be put in any slot without fiddling with the jumpers anymore:-
Cut wire 28 (wire 1 is marked red) of the harddisk ribbon cable of one drive slot in your SSHDR1 (I recommend you mod the Right slot - looking from the front). Check you have wire 28 before cutting! Near the disk end slice ribbon carefully either side of Wire 28 to free a 2cm loop, and cut. Insulate or tape so it can't join again, or rub on anything else. Some old drives do not work with CS - make your mod repairable in case problems occur, or have a spare cable handy.
Then jumper all your SDisks to CS.
From now on, the SDisk that is fitted in the un-modified slot will be the Master (SDiskA), while the SDisk fitted in the modified slot will be the Slave (SDiskB).
Drives jumpered CS will work in either slot, but if you are using just one drive in a unit, it must be put in the un-modified (Master/SdiskA) slot; i.e. you cannot have a Slave/SDiskB without a Master/SdiskA present.
Drives jumpered as Master will still work in un-modified (Master/SDiskA) slot.
(R.Ed is usually factory shipped to use CS disks, and has different cables, same as computers * below)
* The above mod can also be made to computer hard drive cables (great for removeable drives): usually there are 2 drive conectors per ribbon.... You can cut wire 28 near the furtherest (end) drive connector away from the CPU. Then drives jumpered CS will become Master and Slave; Master being the closest plug, and Slave at the after-cut end. Again, you cannot have a Slave without a Master present.
