How To Tie A Grizzly Adams

Bill Barr’s Grizzly Adams

This is a great little dry fly pattern. All you need is a dry fly hook size 10 to 12, grizzle hackle feather, light brown hackle feather, gold wire, black thread and grey natural dubbing material.

Tie on tail from grizzle hackle base fibres. Tie in a fine strand of gold body for ribbing (optional). Dub on body and wind gold wire over rib. Add pair grizzle wing tippets. Tie on base and add a small drop of cement.

Tie on one grizzle and one light brown hackle. Wind the grizzle hackle two to three turns behind the wing and two to three in front of the wing. Tie of and snip off excess. Make sure little wings remain upright. Repeat with brown hackle.

Build up head of fly then tie off and whip finish. Add a drop of cement and there you have it. A great little all purpose fly, the Adams. Useful whenever there is a non descript hatch.
