Turvilles, June 2008

I can remember our first club trip to Turvilles and am still amazed at what New things I have to learn. Things change and nothing more so than the parking meters out the front of the shop which keep going till 7.30 pm. What sort of banana's would want to be loitering around the streets at that time!

The focus of this evening was a terrific presentation on Loch style techniques by outstanding fly fisherman, David Cutajar. It was a comprehensive talk, and David mentioned some key areas in his talk. These included

a. Using/ managing the drogue.                           b. Fishing with the wind.

c. Leader engineering.                                        d.  Tying knots.

e Windlanes                                                       f. Retrieve styles.

g. A number of his special lochsyle flies

I won't go into detail about the techniques explained above. Briefly, I'll mention the fact that David tied up some of his special flies which are real trout killers. A few club members were lucky enough to take them home, so we will hopefully be putting some of these designs into practice over the next few weeks.

A great thanks to Soula, Chris and David for their attendance at the shop and making Sunshine Fly Club feel so welcome.

They also gave us a discount of 20% on nearly all items and club members who attended were lucky enough to stock up their creels, tackle boxes and tying kits with a few more bits and pieces. Soula also put on a terrific spread for us all to enjoy. I told the missus not to make me any dinner as I knew that I would be well fed.

Turvilles also provided us with a cash incentive matching dollar for dollar the entry fee of the event.

Congratulations to Brian Cox on taking out first prize of a $50.00 spending vochure at Turvilles.

Thanks to all the guys for bringing tucker along as we all had a great supper at the close of proceedings.
