William Spalding was a farmer in Bonyton in the Rattray area. (ref - his childrens' baptism records). In his daughter Cecilia's death registration her father is listed as a William Spalding a farmer.
William married Margaret Smith in August 1786 in Rattray.
Marriage: A review of the FHL film 1040134 of the Marriage Register in the Church at Rattray gives the marriage date as 1786. The IGI has 1783 as the date. This would appear to be an error in the IGI. There are two marriage entries that relate:
August 26, 1786 - William Spalden in Bonetown and Mar Smith in Glenbulloch gave up their for proclamation.
August 26, 1786 - William Spaden in Bonngton and Margaret Smith in Glenialloch gave in their namers for proclamation.Based on William and Margaret's children's names it would have been expected that William's father's name was either Peter or William.
1st son - William (child's father's name or possibly also child's father's father's name)
2nd son - Peter (not known from where but could be child's father's father's name)
3rd son - Andrew (child's mother's father's name)
1st Daughter - Cecilia (child's mother's mother's name)There is no relevant record of a William - son of Peter other than a William born in 1747, son of Peter in Monifieth. That William appears to have died in 1749 (ref. Monifieth Parish records).
It is thus assumed that William's father was Peter or William but the Parish records have been lost or the baptism was not recorded.

In the 1841 census on the same page as her son Andrew is listed a Margaret Smith (often Scottish ladies revert to their maiden name when widowed). Her age was 75 (75-79) or born between 1762 and 1766.
It is most likely that Margaret Smith was born in Longforgan in 1765 to Andrew Smith and Cecilia Smith. Her parents names are clearly repeated in those names of her children.

Cecilia never married. Her death certificate identifies her parents as William Spalding and Margaret Smith. She is also found living with her nephew William (her brother William's son) in 1841 and again in 1871 with both her nephews William and Andrew. Her nephew William also reported her details on her death certificate.
Cecilia's age varies:
Approx birth
In 1841 Census 45-49 years 1792-1796
In 1851 Census 59 years 1792
In 1861 Census 70 years 1791
In 1871 Census 84 years 1787
At Death in 1877 90 years 1787It is assumed the earlier years are more accurate and thus make her birth around 1792.
