The witnesses Alice Milner and Isabel Server (nee Milner) were Phillis's sisters and Sarah Crowther was George's sister.  William Whittle was Phillis's brother in law (Mary Ann Milner's husband).

In 1861 George aged 38, his wife Phillis aged 30, and one month old son Frederick R Whitton toghether with Phillis' sister Alice Milner were at Low Fields farm in Kirkby Fleetham.  By the time of the 1871 census his two sons Frederick R and William E were living at Low Fields, Kirby Fleetham. At about that time the land records show George Whitton owned 11 acres and 20 perches of land with a gross estimated rental of 39 pounds.

George, according to the 1881 census was a farmer of 240 acres employing 6 labourers in North Low Fields, Kirkby Fleetham, Yorkshire.  No children were present in 1881 or 1891, just his wife Phillis Woodward Whitton.  In the 1881 Census three farm servants were living with George and Phillis.  The farm servants were listed as indentured, this means that they were employed on a contract basis.  The 1891 Kirkby Fleetham census shows the Lowfields house as vacant.  In 1891 they were in Hunwick, West Riding, Yorkshire as shown in the census and in the 1901 census they had moved to 109 Prescot St, Lowstall, West Derby in Lancashire where their second son William E Whitton was present with both parents. At that time George was a greengrocer and aged 78.
