Source: LDS Film 1849656George according to the 1881 census was a farmer of 240 acres employing 6 labourers in North Low Fields, Kirkby Fleetham, Yorkshire. No children were present in 1881 or 1891 just his wife Phillis Woodward Whitton. In the 1881 Census three farm servants were living with George and Phillis. The farm servants were listed as indentured, this means that they were employed on a contract basis. The 1891 Kirkby Fleetham census shows the Lowfields house as vacant. In 1891 they were in Hunwick, West Riding, Yorkshire as shown in the census and in the 1901 census they had moved to West Derby in Lancashire where their second son William E Whitton was present with both parents.
