2. Elizabeth MAUNDER

Marriage: Marriage of James Withers of Romsey and Elizabeth Maunder of this Parish of Romsey were married in this Church by Licence on 22 December 1800.  Signed: James Withers, Elizabeth Maunder in the Presence of: Henry Colegate, Elizabeth Bigsley.  FHL 1041215.  (note: Henry Colegate and Elizabeth Bigsby married on 6 April 1801 in Romsey.)

There is another family of James Withers and wife Elizabeth having children in the Romsey area but their first child James was born in 1796 and more closely aligns with James Withers and Elizabeth Woolls who were married in 1791.

James WITHERS

The IGI lists two James Withers born in Romsey in 1773.  One to Richard and Catherine baptised on 31 May 1773 and the other to William and Mary baptised on 28 December 1773.  If this James was the son of Richard and Catherine he would have been his wife's (Elizabeth Maunder) mother-in-law's brother.

4. James MAUNDER

Baptism: Romsey Bishop Transcripts - 11 March 1792, James son of Thomas and Elizabeth Maunder.

In the 1841 census James is living with son-in-law and daughter, John and Frances Barling and their family in Greenwich.  James was a carpenter and not born in the London area.

The family of James Maunder and Frances Burton are thought by some to belong to the James (born 1792) son of Thomas Maunder of Romsey.  To date there has been no proof other than his age as referenced by his death certificate aligns with his birth date, and his occupation of carpenter is similar to that of Thomas Maunder (cabinet maker).

9. Thomas MAUNDER

Thomas and Mary Ann Maunder and family are found in the 1841 census on New Sarum, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Mary Ann Maunder died in July-September 1844.  In the 1851 census Thomas is shown as a widower, still living in Wiltshire with his family.  In July-September 1851 Thomas married Sarah Medland. In the 1861 and 1871 census Thomas is living with his second wife, Sarah, in Cheltenham.
