Erected in memory of John Heugh of Newton le Willows who departed this life 4 November 1834 aged 70 years. Also Sarah Heugh his wife who died 31 December 1837 aged 76 years.Newton Le Willows, is in the parish of Patrick Brompton, 3 miles West North West of Bedale.
A Jane Heugh witnessed the marriage of John Lambert to Elizabeth Heugh in Patrick Brompton on 11 January 1816. The other witness was Elizabeth Lambert. It is most likely that Elizabeth Heugh was Jane's sister. A Sarah Heugh witnessed Jane's Marriage to Robert Whitton in 1821. It is likely that Sarah was Jane's sister or mother.

Erected in the memory of Susannah wife of Robert Whitton of Langthorne who died 9 April 1820 aged 40 years.
Also Jane second wife of the aforesaid Robert Whitton who died on 27 June 1829 aged 32 years.
Also the above Robert Whitton late of ... who died 13 ... 1863 aged 79 years.
Also Elizabeth fourth wife of the above Robert Whitton who died at Crakehall 21 November 1863 aged 69 years.Note it is believed that the death date of Jane on the Monument inscription is a reading error and the 1829 should read 1825.

Patrick Brompton, (or East Brompton) is about 3.5 miles North West of Bedale.
Sarah witnessed Jane Heugh's marriage to Robert Whitton. It is assumed that Sarah was Jane's sister. Sarah did not marry.
In the transcript of the entry of "professions and trades" for Great and Little Crakehall in White's Directory of 1840, Sarah Heugh is listed as a farmer. Sarah and Hannah Heugh are at Mud Fields farm in both the 1841 and 1851 census. In the 1841 census they are being helped by their brother-in-law Thomas Cuthbert (brother Francis' wife Margaret's brother) and their nephew Francis Lambert (sister Elizabeth's child). In the 1851 census they are being helped by their nephew William Lambert and neice Sarah Heugh.
In 1857 in the Description and Directory for Crakehall, from Kelly's Post Office Directory of Yorkshire, Mrs Sarah Heugh was listed as a farmer of Mudd Feilds, Crakehall. (It is likely the Mrs should have been Miss)

In the 1841 and 1851 census Hannah was with her sister Sarah at Mud Fields farm. In 1861 Hannah was still farming there with servants. In the 1841 census SDarah and Hannah are being helped by their brother-in-law Thomas Cuthbert (brother Francis' wife Margaret's brother) and their nephew Francis Lambert (sister Elizabeth's child). In the 1851 census they are being helped by their nephew William Lambert and neice Sarah Heugh.
