"Nude beach" is one of the first things that come to mind when one hears about nudism. True, most of us get our first nudist experiences on nude beaches. However Melbourne's climate does not really encourage this, except during the warmer months. Our Nudist swim nights cater for the cooler months. We operate on the 2nd & 4th Saturday nights of the month from February through November. People are admitted between 7pm and 8pm (this allows the committee people to have a swim as well) and we close at 10pm. Supper is at 9pm, and everyone is asked to bring a plate of food. We hire a council run public pool and have 3 lifeguards present. We have a 50m pool, normally split into two 25m pools, a 40m leisure pool with many water features, a large Warm Water Exercise pool, a 40-person Spa, Sauna and Steam room, and we have a trained masseur available. Naturally, as the most modern facility in the state, the centre has disabled access throughout. Pictures are still coming, however we do have photos of our former home at the now defunct Footscray Pool where we had 2 large pools and a small toddler's pool, a Sauna, Steam Room and Spa. One of the pools had a water slide feeding into it and a large inflatable monster that children could play on. The people we attract are from all age groups and many different nationalities and cultures. Nudists come in all shapes and sizes and are no different to the people you meet in the street. Initially many people may think that they need a fantastic body to be able to enjoy the nudist lifestyle. However, nothing could be further from the truth. In actual fact, it is generally those with the lowest self-esteem initially who find that they have the most to gain from nudism. Solar West is a safe, family oriented environment, as we really focus on couples and families (including sole parents). Visitors are welcome, although single visitors are normally only accepted if they can prove membership of other nudist clubs, or as members' guests, and are required to provide full contact details in the visitors book. Repeat visitors are encouraged to take up membership, which provides discounted entry to swim nights. Currently, annual dues (July to June) are $30 and attendance fees $20 per couple/family. The fee for visitors is $25 per couple/family/single. |
