Thomas Henderson
1843-1906

Agnes Henderson nee Grayling
1852-1925

The Hendersons are connected to the Sherwood family through the marriage of Jane Luddon Henderson to Arthur Gordon Sherwood in 1909.

Jane Sherwood nee Henderson's family can be traced back to Falkirk, Scotland. It was there in 1818 that her great grandfather Thomas Henderson I married Janet Allan. Two years later in 1820, their son Thomas Henderson II was born at Dalgety Castle, Aberdeenshire. Thomas Henderson I was a gardener and was most likely employed at Dalgety  when his son was born there. Several years later a daughter Sarah was born.

In 1836 Thomas and Janet and their 2 children arrived in Adelaide on the Coromandel. Their son Thomas Henderson II (Jane's grandfather) married Sarah Hamilton in Adelaide in 1842. The following year their first son Thomas Henderson III (Jane's father) was born.

Tragically Jane's grandfather Thomas was accidentally crushed to death while crossing the Maribyrnong river on a punt. His  son  Thomas Henderson III witnessed the accident.
Thomas Henderson III was born in Happy Valley, Adelaide in 1843.    He married Agnes Grayling in 1873.  They had 11 children.  With the exception of their youngest child all were born at Woodstock and Doctors Creek Victoria.

Around 1891 the Henderson family left Doctors Creek and selected land at Balrooten, near Nhill, Victoria. The Hendersons established a successful wheat farm at Balrooten.

In 1906 Thomas died of heart failure.  He was 63. Agnes moved to Melbourne in 1909, where she bought a house in Brunswick.

Agnes died in Melbourne in 1925.  She was 73.
