Our Garage

In June 2004, Lyn and I decided that it was time that our Buick came home. Our Buick was restored at Will and Sharon Shillingford's home and from there it went to Lyn's parents place in Ferntree Gully, not far from home here at Rowville, but still not home with the rest of the Stubbs family.

Construction on our garage commenced in mid July 2004. We picked from "Aussie Made Garages" a 8 metre long by 4.2 metre wide garage with a wall height of 2.7 metres. A roller door 3 metres wide and 2.3 metres high.

The Slab was poured and after the concrete had cured for a week, the guys from "Aussie Made Garages" arrived and under 5 Hours, the garage was up.

I got busy and connected the down pipes to the storm water and put down crushed rock for the driveway.

On the 4th of August 2004, our Buick came home, Thanks to Ron and Marg for looking after our Buick for 1 year and 8 months, but now "Jessie" was at home with the rest of the family. What a great feeling to have her just outside the back door.

On the 17th of January 2005, we had electricity connected to the garage. This has certainly made life working in the garage considerably better. Light to see what I'm doing and of course a radio. Another necessity for a garage is a fridge. A look on ebey and the perfect fridge presented itself, a late 40's to early 50's Frigidare, a classic to sit beside our other classic. A fridge with a history, the previous owner told me the following.....

"this fridge was owned by my Grandparents. Weary Dunlop ( who was a mate of Grandad ) sat on top of this fridge in about 1962 and sang Walzting Matilda to 100 Returned Servicemen at a function at his place in Hawthorn"

A fridge with a story, what more could you ask for !!!!!

I have christened the Garage - "The House Of Buick - Victoria" after the other famous "House of Buick" in the West.

HOUSE OF BUICK - VICTORIA

Another important piece of equipment for a garage is a work bench. On the 31st of January I commenced construction of a suitable work bench, using 100x 100 posts (left over from our pergola) as legs and a bench top from an old kitchen cupboard. Construction was completed on Saturday the 5th of February and I moved it in to place. I bought a vice from "Super Cheap Auto's" and we are in "Business"

Our rear yard, my 39th birthday party, 29 January 2005.
