This weeks
maths problem: Find the maximum number (N) of discs
diameter (D) from rectangular plate (X by Y). What assumptions have you made about the spacing
between the discs and the discs and the edges? This is a real world problem from the
steel industry. The solution is surprisingly non-linear and non-regular
packing is sometimes the optimum solution. |
