Easter bunnies, chocolate eggs and happy children playing
Peter Rabbit, fluffy chicks and happy Easter saying
Little ones running here and there telling each other tales
But Easters true meaning started out towards whip, cross and nails
He hung on a rugged cross battered torn and bruised
A crown of thorns upon His head the soldiers were amused
Where is your God now they said their voices filled with sneering
A spear was thrust into His side while others looked on cheering
Did you hear Him one voice said He asked we be forgiven
By someone He called Father, when He looked up toward heaven
What rubbish, He’s the carpenters son, you can plainly see he’s dead
Now which of us will have His cloak, but no one really cared
His followers took His body down they laid it in a tomb
With heavy hearts and crying eyes and voices filled with gloom
But Jesus had a job to do and needed these three days
To smash the enemy’s fortress claiming victory all the way
Then He took this victory over death and hell and sin
He presented it to His Father with the blood He’d wrapped it in
After this because of love, He showed Himself once more
To the folks who mourned His passing when He died just days before
Though we do not see Him now in the flesh as they did then
It’s just as true our Saviour lives, for us there’ll be no end
So when the angel comes to call at the closing of life’s day
There’ll be no heavy heart for me just glory all the way
I know my precious Saviour lives, He's waiting there for me
The
nail scars in His hands and feet for all who wish to see
The
evidence of such great love poured out upon that tree
For
all who choose to be with Him throughout eternity
