The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) is a nationally agreed framework to ensure the quality of vocational education and training (VET) services across Australia.  The standards specifically mention compliance with anti-discrimination legislation (Section 2) and access to learning and assessment (Section 9). (ANTA, 2001)

Bridging Pathways (ANTA, 2000), the national strategy for increasing opportunities for people with a disability in vocational education and training, specifically mentions accessible information as a sub-goal.

Adopted in 2002, the TAFE Queensland Equity and Diversity Policy was developed to address the disadvantage members of some groups continue to experience in the VET system.  The policy relates directly to the AQTF.

The Policy’s “Supporting Information” document describes several specific points relating to accessibility of information and learning and assessment materials:

-        “TAFE Queensland’s training programs and support services for students will be tailored to their learning requirements and will include but not be limited to … educational access – accessibility of training materials whether in print or on line, or other formats as required”. (p. 4)

-        “Information provided to students should encourage them to make early contact prior to enrolment to discuss support requirements and to allow the institute adequate time to arrange support services and modification of course materials.” (p. 5)

-        “TAFE Queensland provides accessible and timely information on training, assessment and services that is accessible to a diverse range of individuals.” (p. 15)

“TAFE Queensland has systems in place to ensure that the requirements of a diverse range of learners and clients are accounted for in strategic and operational planning processes….[This includes] “an ‘equity check at every step’ in internal and external projects, processes, policies and procedures.” (p. 20)
