There are two ways that training providers can plan for providing information to students with a print disability:

  • Use Universal Design principles.  Staff involved in writing, formatting, and purchasing learning materials need to know how to design these materials to be as accessible as possible from the start.

  • Be prepared by identifying options for timely, effective and efficient conversion of inaccessible materials.

Training providers can prepare by:

  • Encouraging students to discuss their needs as early as possible

  • Developing supply arrangements for the various accessible formats

  • Developing knowledge in use of assistive technology

  • Developing relationships with library staff and ask library staff to monitor developments in accessible formats

  • Storing electronic copies of documents (in MS Word, RTF, or accessible PDF) so it is easier to produce accessible formats when needed

Assistance for training providers

The Department of Employment and Training have a unit that can help training providers convert learning materials into alternative formats.  For more information go to Support for Training Providers.

Information on Specific Accessible Formats

Providing materials in an alternative format could be as simple as sending an electronic file via email, or it could involve preparing Braille documents and tactile diagrams, and providing a notetaker during training sessions.

Use the links below for information on specific accessible formats and how they can be produced.
