The crew will have to be removed. Using
longer cables and better placed LEDs, may provide enough room to keep the crew.
Drill 0.7 mm holes in the LEDs for the fibre optic cables to mount in.
Mounted one 5 mm high intensity red LED and one 3mm Prototype White LED, each with its associated voltage dropping resistors on the cab wall secured with Blu Tack.
Drill 0.7 mm holes in the four clearance lights at the rear of the 44.
Locate the cable through the clearance lights.
Slightly “mushroom” over the fibre optic cable to reduce the chance of the cable disappearing back inside.

The final product with all lights selected
on.
Connect the LEDs to the functions 3 and 4 of the NCE D14SR decoder and set the effects as on/off and Rule 17.
Select either of the white or red marker lights by operating F1 or F2 respectively.
To operate these white and red marker lights individually in front and rear pairs, will require a 6 function decoder.
This loco 4494 now has a Loksound 3.0 sound decoder and these lights are similarly operated with F5 and F6. The Loksound 3.0 cannot dim as they can be with the NCE D14SR.
Note: The rear headlight is a LED mounted on the chassis and “pointing” at grey box. This being a LED, it gives a much better headlight than the 1.5 lamp. This as can be seen creates “two” beams.
