Keiramyst Bearded Collies is a small, select kennel situated at Kirrawee, one of the southern suburbs of the Sydney metropolitan area close to the Royal National Park. Planning began in 1982 when we finally moved into a house with a generous backyard. In mid 1983 our first beardie came home. “Tessa”
(Gaweke Contessa) was a slate and white bitch bred by Don & Belle Smith. We were encouraged to breed show her and were soon hooked on the world of shows.

The following year, we added two more to our family. “Lady” (Ch Gaweke Bonny Braids), a slate bitch aged three years of age was in need of a new home and came to Keiramyst to keep Tessa company and to be shown to her Australian Championship title. “Evett” (Ch Gaweke Don
Evett) was born in November and it was love at first sight. He was a gorgeous black and white pup who, as he grew, gave many hours of pleasure as a devoted companion as well as being a delightful dog to have on the end of a lead. His proudest moments were in 1990 when he took Best Dog & Runner-up in Show at a NSW Club Speciality, and 1991 when he went Reserve Dog at Sydney Royal.

The first Keiramyst litter was born in October 1986 when Tessa was mated to Brian Dowse & Graham Kerr’s “Milton” (Ch Anubis Milton
Cushnie). Two slate puppies, “Mitchell” and “Cassi” stayed at Keiramyst to be campaigned to their Australian Championship titles. Ch Keiramyst Casandra Rose has become “the First Lady of Keiramyst”, being dam, grand-dam and great-grand-dam to all who have followed. Her first taste of success was in 1988 when, as a Junior, she took Reserve Challenge at Sydney Royal. She repeated this again in 1991 and 1994. Three times she traded the show ring for maternal duties. At 17 years of age in October 2003, she is still a very much loved member of our household.
The second Keiramyst litter was in 1991 when Cassi was mated to Evett to give us our beautiful blue girl, “Holly” (Ch Keiramyst Chantilly Lace). Holly inherited her father’s devoted nature and beautiful coat, although this time blue not slate. |

Cassi’s third litter in 1994 to Julie Wardell’s “Douglas” (Ch Llanddona Diarmid (Imp NZ)) produced Keiramyst’s most successful beardie – “Demi” (Grand Champion Keiramyst Lorna
Doone). Demi is not a glamorous bitch, but what a specialist would call, a true beardie. One of Demi’s proudest moments came in September 1999 when she took Best of Breed at Blacktown KC Show with an excellent entry of beardies under specialist judge, Graham Kerr. He then awarded her Best in Group and she went on to take Australian Bred in Show. She has also been awarded a Best in Show and Runner-up in Show at NSW Speciality Shows. At nine years of age she is still being exhibited and covers the ground easily, still maintaining her topline on the move.

In 1996 “Chester” (Ch Keiramyst Ticket To Ride) was born when Holly was mated to Douglas. Chester has been fun to show, being awarded many Classes in Group and a Runner-up in Group. In 2003 he was awarded Australian Bred in Show at a Hunter Region Working Dog Club Show.
In 2004 Keiramyst is campaigning a Demi x Chester daughter,
Laura (Aust Ch Keiramyst Laura Ashley), and is looking forward to Demi having her final litter later this year. She will then retire from regular exhibiting and join Holly & Cassi “sleeping on Mum’s bed”!
Our latest addition to the family is our beautiful Jandi (Jupi Mi Jandis Kilt)
from Julie Wardell in NSW. So far in 2004 from just a few shows,
Jandi has already been awarded two Baby Puppy in Group, and one
Baby Puppy in Show!
In the midst of all of this, I have had time to acquire many titles:
Secretary & Public Officer, Bearded Collie Club of NSW
(having also served as Show Secretary & Treasurer)
Show Secretary, Working Dog Club of NSW
Treasurer & Public Officer, Sutherland Shire ABKC Inc
RNSWCC Steward
Steward for Sydney Royal Easter Show

Bearded Collies
The entrance page of our site features a group one from the Bearded Collie Club of NSW Picnic Day in 1993. A good shot for lots of beardies (we use it a lot on Club brochures). The light silver bitch on the front right hand side is Ch Keiramyst Chantilly Lace "Holly" as a youngster.
The wonderful Beardie sketch on all of our headers and lines was done by Lynne
Mehan, an extremely talented Australian artist. You can visit Lynne's site here!
