The Song of Songs

Oil on canvas 44x68 cm. framed, $600 AUD

The love and union between man and woman is expressed in this beautiful poem by Solomon. It is an allegory of the relationship between God and his people, and also between God and the individual person. Through the keyhole, the streets of Jerusalem can be seen. The grapes and pomegranates are symbols of fertility. The closed and open lily represent male and female. The entwining of the hands is the union of man and woman, the woman's hand can also be interpreted as her body.
