An echo of the despair Judas Iscariot experienced after betraying Christ, selling him for 40 pieces of silver, is felt when the mighty dollar is the backbone of my life. When my desires focus on material possessions and I look at Christ on the cross, death is laughing and masks are dropped. The moon is the pearl of great price, and the pain of guilt is overwhelming. "Keep the silver!" is a rejection of materialism for Christ's sake.
