Rosette Nebula

The glowing pink colour of this cloud of gas and dust is the result of energy absorbed from the surrounding hot young stars and re-emitted as a pink glow by ionized hydrogen. The centre of the Rosette Nebula contains a cluster of very young, hot blue stars which emit so much light that their energy blows away the dust and gas, producing a large, circular dark space in the centre of the nebula.
