Artist Contemplating Pegasus in the Horsehead Nebula

Oil on composition board 90x60 cm. framed, $900 AUD
This image of the horsehead is due to a large cloud of gas and dust which blocks the light coming from behind it. The glowing pink colour is from light absorbed by the particles of dust and gas from the surrounding hot young stars and re-emitted as a pink glow by ionized hydrogen. Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek Mythology takes artists to the top of Mount Olympus where the Muses give them inspiration. Although the Artist is earth-bound, her eyes are lifted beyond the stars.
