Acrylic on canvas 61x84 cm. $400 AUD each
Each of these 5 paintings explores images that can be developed by using numbers from a sequence explained by the mathematician Fibonacci in the Middle Ages. It was actually known by Indian mathematicians as early as the 6th century. Spirals and the Golden Ratio are often seen in nature, art and architecture. They are all based on this sequence generated by adding successive numbers in the series 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,etc.. When adjacent numbers are divided, the Golden Ratio is obtained. The colours chosen are from the colour theory of Itten, a French painter who explored the relationships between the colours of the colour-chart showing primary, secondary and tertiary colours.
