62. John SCOTT

There are some inconsistencies with this John Scott.  On his marriage registration of 1881 and his death registration of 1937 his father's name is listed as John Scott, Iron Master, and mother Ann McMillan.  His father should have been James Scott.

On his marriage registration he is listed as a Medical Student but on his death registration he was listed as a Coal Pithead worker.  On the census records of 1881, 1891 and 1901 he was listed as a form of clerk.

70. Robert SCOTT

Robert Scott began his career under his father who was the Managing Director of the Coltness Iron Company.  In 1910 he crossed the Border to Sheffield, where he became assistant foundry manager with Thomas Firth and Sons.  At that time he lived at 200 Firth Park Road, Sheffield.

In 1911 when he was an assistant manager of the steel foundry he married Janet (Jenny) Watson.

After four years with Thomas Firth and Sons he returned to Scotland in a very similar capacity with Williams Beardmore and Company Ltd., Parkhead. In 1921 he joined the Atlas Steel Foundry and Engineering Company, Ltd., Armadale.  He quickly rose to the position of Managing Director, the position which he held until he was about 79.  He then became a member of the board of the company until his death.  A remarkably energetic man, he took a great interest in the firm and motored to Armadale every day.

During his years in the steel trade Robert Scott became very well known.  For some time he was vice-chairman of the Executive Council of the British Foundry Association.  Owing to industrial commitments, Robert Scott was unable to join the armed services during the World Wars.  Instead, he did voluntary fire service in Glasgow.

Robert Scott was a founder member of Burnside Masonic Lodge No. 1361.  He was also a member of the Bridgeton Burns Club and of the Glasgow Haggis Club.

Robert Scott died at his home, 63 Blairberth Road, Rutherglen, aged 80 years.

Interestingly Bob Scott never mentioned to his family anything about his half brothers and sisters from his father's first marriage.
