Last Nationals
Held Rockingham West Australia - April 2004:
It
should be realized that to
get an event going in West Australia needs a heap of selling - as it is so
far away from the main area of Pylon Racing along the East Coast of Australia .The
Queensland boys traveled just on 5,000 km to get there. I was told by a
competitor that the CAMS field at Rockingham was the best pylon field that he
has ever flown from. He said that he really enjoyed himself and that he
would go there again.
This report was given to me by Mark Giggins who did a lot of work to set up this West Australian Nationals - Photos by Vern Gibson:.

Some very fast racing with times
around 58-60 sec - world class standard! Phelan won by 3 sec over 9 rounds,
dropped 2 rounds of 64, which had 1 cut each.
Almost all competitors were running the RPM engine, with exception of Turna &
Pickin who were running the older style RI Nelsons.Harrod's had both profi and
RPM engined models, but chose to fly their RPM's in the competion.
Speeds were comparable amongst Phelan and Harrods, perhaps Harrod's were faster,
but not flown as well as Phelan.
Another point of interest: Phelan was flying his ex-WC models in the comp, while
developing his new Dago Red during practice. After the event, he swapped the
engine/pipe/prop from his competition model to the Dago and flew a56.4 on the
course. The time was definitely unofficial, but he could be flying a world
record very soon. The engine he is using is called a 'long stroke' version -
something he has developed with good reliability. This engine is a modified from
his existing engine. He said that it seems to be much more gentle with its
handing, and much more reliable. (Picture above -
