Feast Day Celebrations
Nov 8th was our parish’s feast day, the second we have had at Homebush west, for Sts Michael and Gabriel and all the Archangels. We started the day with a Divine Liturgy on the Saturday with His Eminence celebrating with us.
Following from this we went around the corner to St Dominics Church hall for a catered lunch and some fun. Opened with a prayer from Fr. John and Metropolitan Paul, we ate, sang songs, watched a brief preview of the church school play, had dessert and watched a touching video of our first 2 years together as a church of Christ. Put together with film and still images from the past two years, it was a great jesture to the parish. Thanks to Claire, Michael, Kh. Helen, Ramsey and anyone else who may have had the foresight to take photos and video of major events in our church life.
Monastry Visit
On the Queen’s birthday holiday we visited the skete of St John the Baptist with Fr Joachim, conveniently close to the monastry dedicated to the Holy Mother of God icon called Kazan of the Russian Abroad in Kentlyn. After Liturgy in his church we visited the nun’s church, simply beautiful, and saw the icon the have that is reappearing miraculously after fading over the years. It is of St Seraphim of Sarov. Each year the colour is improving and it is near completion. They also have many relics of saints and a splinter of the Holy Cross.
Following lunch we visited Fr Joachim gave us a tour of his land, which has been a monastry for almost 70 years, not all with him there of course. We saw the cave that the previous monk, Saint Gregor, would spend nights in vigil. He passed to the Lord in 1992. Fr John lead us in an Akathist to the Baptist John at the same cave. Truely we are lucky to have a faith as ours is. Christ is still in His Church.
