Anglican Cursillo Weekends in South Australia.

Most people first encounter Cursillo by attending a Cursillo three day weekend. Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning a short course (in Christian living.) The weekends for 2008 are to be a separate weekend for men and women, and a new venture - a Youth Cursillo. Weekends are also held occasionally at Melrose at the Willochra Diocesan Centre. A person is normally sponsored to attend a weekend by someone who has already attended one. The weekend is made up of talks on aspects of Christian living, given by previous attendees at the weekends, discussions on the talks, singing, worship, times of quiet in the chapel, eucharists, times of fun and frolic, and generous amounts of food and drink.

The purpose of the weekend is to equip people to be leaders so that they can go back to their environments and change them for Jesus Christ, and be more effective leaders in their parishes. People are encouraged and affirmed.

After the weekend, participants are encouraged in their “fourth day” Christian walk (the rest of their lives) in small group reunions, and in larger gatherings called Ultreyas. (Ultreya is a Spanish word with the sense of encouragement.)

The intended outcome of the Cursillo weekend is that people are more effective Christian leaders in their daily lives and in their local parish, and that they are involved in small groups.

The weekends run from Thursday or Friday, (depending on whether they are held over a long weekend) starting around 5pm, until Sunday or Monday at approximately 5pm. The application form will be available for download from this site when details of the 2008 weekends are finalised.

The cost for the weekend in 2007 was $250. Secretariat intends the 2008 cost will be less. However, there is a policy nobody should be excluded on the basis of cost.

Further information can be obtained by e-mailing the Diocesan Secretariat. See choices below.
