
My own children do not know their family - as I did not know many of my own generation. I am documenting this, not just as a list of dates, names and places, but as a real story, so that my sons will know where they came from, and hence will know who they are now.
As is often the case these days, people drift away to distant parts of the world and the fragments of what once were close knit family units are sadly lost.
I began the task out of curiosity, on hearing tiny snippets about my family from my parents. They were not people to keep in touch with their once close ties, and that in itself made me wonder about my ancestors.
One can research and keep on researching, because a family is a never ending line ad infinitum, but there comes a time to get things in order and for me it is the time.
