Marriage Banns for Phillip and Thekla
were read on 13th, 18th, and 20th April 1834, and they married in Hassloch
Germany on the 21.04.1834.
Philip immigrated to Australia with
his wife and 5 children , from Germany aboard the "Daniel Ross" in 1855. Between then and 1860 they moved to Glen Innes. Prior to
leaving Germany he was employed as a baker, but it does not appear that he
took up this trade in Australia.
On the 03.07.1860 he was naturalised,
stating he was born in Germany, and emigrated aboard the "Danial Rop" in 1855.
(Ref: 2599 roll 130).He stated his age as 52. He stated he was a baker by
trade and having purchased crown land at the government sales at Glen Innes
NSW. His first attempt to be naturalised failed, as he was away on court day,
and subsequently 60 days lapsed, and he had to reapply.
In 1876 after Thekla passed away he
remarried. The 2nd wife was: Mary
M Wilson at Wellingrove Regn # 4434. We believe she was previously married to
a Sharrack. She was 45 and Phillip was 70, but he still outlived her. We also located a death of a Mary Grob
aged 55 in 1884.
In 1881-2 Sands Directory Phillip was
a farmer in Glen Innes.
Phillip remained in Glen Innes for the rest of his life, and is buried in the Glen Innes Cemetery.
